John Francis Williams III, forester, soldier, land manager, oldest son of John F. Williams II and Doris Jenkins, was born March 2, 1922, in Charlotte, North Carolina.
He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree, North Carolina State College, 1943, and a Master of Forestry Degree from Duke University, 1947.
He saw active combat service in Europe during World War II, and also served during the Korean War. Awarded the Croix de Guerre by the French Assembly.
He married Phyllis Jean Schock, daughter of Harley Elmer Schock and Edith Grace Pearson, October 15, 1955, in Durham, North Carolina. They have five children, namely
Claire Grace, Jonathan Hayes, Mary Cortez, Michael Pearson and John Mare.
