  3. Maternal Grandparents: John James, hooper, and Sarah, of St. Stephens parish. According to the 1696 Bristol census, John James, Sarah, Joseph, and Elizabeth were living in Bristol then.

  4. His mother Elizabeth James, was baptised Sept. 5, 1686 in St. Stephens parish

  5. William Williams married Elizabeth James on January 21, 1709

    In searching for burial records of St. Augustine parish burial records we found:

  6. Three records of a John Williams (Grandfather?) being buried on June 19, 1730, Dec 26, 1931 and on April 16, 1735.

  7. Four records of Mary Williams (Grandmother?) being buried in Nov. 5, 1722,  Feb. 4, 1725, Mar. 12, 1726 and June 22, 1726.

  8. Two records of William Williams (Father?) being buried on Dec. 22, 1729 and on July 23, 1732.

  9. William Williams (himself) was buried on April 27, 1791.

    St. Stephens parish burial records show:

  10. Three records of Elizabeth Williams (Mother?) being buried on July 17, 1768, on May 26, 1769 and on Jan 17, 1773.

Notes of marginal interest:

  1. Bristol poll book of 1722 shows that both William Williams, gentleman, and John James, hooper, voted.

  2. Bristol poll book of 1734 showed that neither William Williams nor John James voted.

  3. Voting population in St. Augustine was estimated to be about 250 in about 1700.

  4. Bristol population approximately 20,000 in 1672. There are 17 parishes; Population of St. Augustine was around 1,800.

  5. Bountaries of Bristol were laid down in 1373 by order of Edward III, giving it county status.

  6. City purchased the Bristol castle in 1630, but in 1656 Oliver Cromwell demolished it.
